Dr. Thomas M. Koenig is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with additional expertise centered on arthroscopic reconstruction and rehabilitation of the knee, shoulder, and other joints. He also has additional fellowship training in sports medicine.

In 1986, Dr. Thomas M. Koenig earned his medical degree with orthopedic honors from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (now a part of Drexel University). This center of excellence had a rigorous residency program boasting the first and then only Level 1 trauma center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In testament to his work ethic he earned the A.S.O.A. Residency Award in 1989. Dr. Thomas M Koenig completed his postdoctoral education at Hahnemann Medical College in 1991 with a general surgery internship and orthopedic residency.
Following his completion of his residency training, Dr. Thomas M. Koenig trained with George Schonholtz, M.D. completing an arthroscopy and sports medicine fellowship course criteria in 1992 in the Washington, DC area.
He was the first in East Tennessee to achieve certification for the Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System (RIO) MAKOplasty in both hip and knee clinical training programs.
He moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1992 and has made his home and practice here in East Tennessee.
